The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Viagra, a popular medication that treats erectile dysfunction. The FDA issued a public health advisement to highlight the safety of using Viagra after it was reported in 2017 that it could lead to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
Viagra, a generic version of Cialis, is available in the United States through prescription and non-prescription drug stores. The FDA warned consumers to avoid using Viagra if they are experiencing erectile dysfunction.
“In the United States, the most common brand name medications used to treat erectile dysfunction are Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Stendra,” the FDA warning stated.
“Sildenafil citrate, the generic equivalent of Viagra, is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men,” the FDA added.
“Men with erectile dysfunction may experience some side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection, which may be reversible if they stop taking sildenafil.”

CVS Price Enhancement Program cut the price of Viagra at CVS by $10 for three months and $15 for six months, respectively, after the retailer’s lower-priced supply of generic medication was cut in half.
